Gardening is good for your health

It is a fact that gardening is an activity that makes many feel good. But beyond the joy it offers, gardening is good for maintaining the gardener’s good physical and mental state and health.

Many of us consider gardening and engaging in growing crops a hobby or in some cases an emergency.

But many people draw great joy and satisfaction from the plants and trees they cultivate. These people take delight in seeing their plants grow, birds and butterflies flying in their garden, the wind blowing as they pass through the trees, the flowers blooming, even the insects and worms that Live in their garden.

Dealing with their garden has made them happy, and are people with fewer health problems than those who do not grow plants. In other words, engaging with the garden and crops helps maintain good health!

Gardening is one of those activities that bring you into contact with nature and it is believed that contact with nature has long been therapeutic. There have been many studies that link gardening and better health. Almost all of them have come to the same positive conclusions. Gardening is good for maintaining a good physical and mental state. It also helps in burning calories, as it is a very good form of exercise.

Gardening and fitness

We all know that gardening and planting means digging, weeding, carving, planting, transplanting, pruning, etc.

We do not perform all of the above activities at the same time, nor with the same intensity. However, physical activity for at least 30 minutes every day is good for our health.

In the case of activities related to gardening, all the main muscles of our body are functioning and used improving the physical condition of the body and its flexibility. Gardening is good for both the respiratory and the circulatory system. It does help the lungs and heart.

Recent studies have shown that gardening (if done regularly) can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, high blood pressure and diabetes. Gardening helps in dealing with insomnia. You are tired and sleeping more easily!

Gardening helps to strengthen the immune system.

Another benefit from gardening is exposure to the sun . Skin exposure to the sun helps absorb vitamin D from the body.

Those who organically cultivate their own vegetables and fruits have access to a rich source of natural vitamins that do not contain harmful chemicals. They know what they eat. They consume fresh foods, rich in vitamins and nutrients.

Even the very elderly can take advantage of the garden. They can deal with watering, shaking soil or compost, filling pots with soil. All of the above help keep their muscles in operation.

Is gardening a good form of exercise?

Surely gardening is a form of exercise as it requires physical activity. Almost all body muscles are involved when dealing with gardening. Increase the flexibility of the body. Increase your stamina.

Although gardening is now mainly for pleasure, if practised regularly for at least 30 minutes a day, it can be considered a form of mild exercise. If you even manage to limit the use of mechanical means, the better. Easy to say, difficult to do.

Some of the garden activities (especially intensive) help in calorie burning and slimming. According to experts a medium activity in the garden helps us burn 300 calories in one hour. Intensive activity for one hour leads to burning 600 calories. Cutting lawn for 1 hour, burns 360 calories. 360 calories in one hour also burn if you are busy transplanting trees, shrubs or weeding (removing weeds).
